
The Emeritus Club - Keeping members of 50 year and earlier classes, and Emeritus faculty, in touch with each other and the University, offering a forum for educational and social activities, a contact for travel and services, support for other Tulane programs, and rendering all possible assistance to the University in maintaining its excellence.

ATHLETIC LIAISON: Keeps lines of communication open between the Emeritus Club and the athletic department. The chair promotes the University's athletic programs to the Emeritus Club and its Board.
UNIVERSITY CURRENT AFFAIRS: Keeps The Emeritus Club informed of current University affairs: accomplishments, events, and issues facing the entire University community.
TULANE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION LIAISON: Keeps lines of communication open between the Emeritus Club and the Tulane Alumni Association; promotes TAA and its programs to the Board of Governors and other Emeritus volunteers (such as reunion committee members).
TRAVEL: Assists the Tulane Travel program coordinator in the selection of the annual Emeritus Club trip. Informs the Board of Governors of other trips of interest.
FALL EMERITUS CLUB REUNIONS: Promotes the 55th, 60th, 65th, 70th year and later reunions among population of The Emeritus Club. Coordinates with Alumni Affairs staff and interested class reunion leaders.
HOMECOMING: This committee plans the Emeritus Club Homecoming luncheon and other activities around the University's Homecoming schedule.
EDUCATIONAL CONFERENCE: Promotes the Educational Conference to the New Orleans area Emeritus Club population. This committee will serve on a joint Educational Conference Advisory Board with members of Tulane Alumni Association Committees and other interested faculty, staff and alumni. They will particularly offer input about speakers or other programs for the Emeritus Club, i.e. opening, session.
50-YEAR REUNION: Advises in the planning of the 50-Year Commencement Luncheon, and the second graduation ceremonies. As needed, 75th reunion arrangements will be included in these plans.
SENIOR EVENT: Planning of the joint event for the senior class and the 50-year class and their families. The committee coordinates with the Alumni Affairs staff, academic deans, registrar's office and student affairs staff to coordinate and promote the event.
OUTSTANDING ALUMNUS OF THE 50 YEAR CLASS AWARD: Reviews class-mates', deans' and staff nominations and class lists, requests research write-ups for most highly qualified nominees. Meets and offers a recommendation to the Board regarding the best candidate. Orders and presents recipient with a plaque at the Commencement luncheon.
ENTERTAINMENT: Recommends programs that will be of interest to the Emeritus Club population and coordinates the programs, invitations and menus with Alumni Affairs staff.
NOMINATING: This committee's work determines the future of the Emeritus Club. Since its inception, the Emeritus Club Board of Governors has attempted to represent all eleven schools and colleges of the University. Nominating will also offer slates of officers each year when the Board of Governors votes in the Chair and Vice Chair. The Chair of the Board of Governors will determine the appropriate size of this committee.
(Committee appointments are solely up to the Chair of The Emeritus Club Board of Governors. However, indications of interest for chairs and committee volunteers are welcomed and encouraged. Each committee chair may include members from the general population of The Emeritus Club; we want to include as many members as possible.)
Bio of Carol Downes Cudd:
Carol Downes Cudd received a Bachelor’s degree in history from Sophie Newcomb College of Tulane University in 1959 where she was active in student government and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She was past president of the Newcomb Alumnae Association and a former member of the Tulane President’s Council. She has served on the Newcomb National Committee, was past chairman of the Newcomb Dean’s Advisory Council, a past member of the Newcomb Foundation Board and current member of the advisory board of the Newcomb Art Gallery. She received the Tulane Alumni Association 1989 Volunteer of the Year Award with other members of the Newcomb Executive Committee, and the Newcomb College Alumnae Service Award in 1990. She is a member of the Paul Tulane Society and was a member of the Board of Administrators of Tulane University from 1994 to 2006.
Mrs. Cudd was active in community and church work in Monroe, Louisiana, where she and her husband Bob and their four daughters lived for many years, serving on the board of the Ouachita Parish Red Cross, as professional Division Chairman of the United Way of Monroe, on the board of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, and she was an active member of the Junior League of Monroe, which she served as president. She was a part-owner and manager of Four Seasons Travel. In Taos, New Mexico, Mrs. Cudd is a former board member of the Taos Art Association, is currently an advisory member of the board of the Millicent Rogers Museum which she previously served as president, and is a past member of the National Board of the New Orleans Museum of art.
Bio of Michael Joseph Rapier:
After graduation in 1959 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, Mr. Rapier was employed at the First National Bank of Commerce in New Orleans where he served as Senior Vice President, Correspondent Banking Department, and Secretary to the Board of Governors. In 1966, he graduated from the Rutgers University Graduate School of Banking. From 1975 to 1987, he was President and Chief Executive Office of the National Bank of Commerce in Jefferson Parish, later acquired by Whitney National Bank. From 1980 to 1985, Mr. Rapier was the Director of the First Guaranty Bank & Trust Company in Hammond. From 1987 to the present, he is the owner of Michael J. Rapier Investments, an investment holding company which operates six companies with interests in oil, gas and real estate investments, and portfolios of investment securities, government and municipal bonds. He is also the President and Chief Executive Officer of S.C. Minerals, Inc.; Member of the Executive Committee of Fidelity Homestead Savings Bank of New Orleans; Board of Directors member and Treasurer of Biloxi Marsh Lands, Inc.; President & CEO of Day minerals, Inc.; and Director and Treasurer of Lake Eugenie Land & Development.
