New Orleans is one of the greatest cities in the world to go to school. The city has given us so many opportunities to learn about life, and throughout the city we have experienced an array of different sights, sounds and tastes that you simply can't find anywhere else. Only in New Orleans can you get out of any class on a Friday afternoon and ride a streetcar to the French Quarter to listen to jazz on the streets. No matter where you come from, you're welcome in New Orleans. The city lives inside of you, it gets under your skin, and it fires you up.
I'm a sixth - generation Tulanian. Tulane has always been in my blood because it has always been in my family. I grew up within a Tulane community and I have been involved in the school from an early age. Only at Tulane can you watch your football team in an NFL arena, eat as much crawfish and listen to as much music as you want for 10 hours straight, and take a long weekend off to celebrate the wonders of Mardi Gras. Tulane means so much to me. It is a special place and a one-of-a-kind university.
We were the first group of freshmen to come to Tulane after Hurricane Katrina, and that is something very unique that has united our class. We came from all over the country to go to school in New Orleans during a very tumultuous time because we trusted our instincts and because we wanted to participate in a monumental experience, a historic experience, and to have our education mean something special. We wanted to be here for a reason: to make history at Tulane and in New Orleans through community service and by giving back to a place that gave so much to us. Let's all join together to continue Tulane's legacy.
