NAA Officers and Elections
The Nominating Committee of the Newcomb Alumnae Association is pleased to announce the following slate of new officers:
President: Catherine Hagaman Edwards NC’72, New Orleans, LA
Catherine’s Vision for the NAA: First, I would like to dramatically increase the number of attendees at reunions. Our reunions not only provide us with an excellent opportunity to encourage Newcomb alumnae to return to the campus, they also give us a chance to showcase what women who currently attend Tulane are accomplishing through research, grants and internships made possible by the Newcomb College Institute. Second, I hope that we can significantly raise the level of giving to NCI to broaden these opportunities and to fund new ones.
Vice President for Alumnae: Meredith Beers NC’07, PH’11, New Orleans, LA
Meredith’s Vision for the NAA: The Newcomb Alumnae Association will connect alumnae with one another through reunions and other events, both in New Orleans and other cities. The NAA will also help educate undergraduate women and our alumnae about Newcomb's history and legacy, as well as current happenings at the Newcomb College Institute. Lastly, the NAA will serve as the link between our alumnae and all female undergraduates at Tulane.
Secretary: Olivia Watkins NC’06, Baton Rouge, LA
Olivia’s Vision for the NAA: The NAA has the unique opportunity reach all of the women who both attended Newcomb College in the past and all those women graduating from Newcomb-Tulane Undergraduate College in the future, no matter whether they study business, architecture or literature. Leveraging the connections among all of the undergraduate women who attend Tulane serves to make us a stronger organization. Working to strengthen the bond between all Newcomb women, whether through professional networking, association activities like the book clubs or by volunteering our time and our dollars may help carry the spirit of H. Sophie Newcomb through the 21st century.
These exceptional women will be elected to their new positions at the annual meeting of the Newcomb Alumnae Association on Friday, October 21, 2011 in New Orleans. Each position is a two-year term.
